Why Website Quotes in Malaysia Range From RM3,000 to RM15,000+

The same brief, three different numbers

Website quotes for the same brief vary because studios are pricing different scopes of work, not because one is padding the bill and another is cutting corners. Send the same brief to three studios and you'll get three numbers that don't seem to describe the same project: one at RM3,000, one at RM8,000, one north of RM15,000. It's tempting to read that as one of them padding the bill, or two of them cutting corners. Usually neither is true. They're pricing different things and calling all of it "a website."

The number itself tells you almost nothing on its own. What matters is what's sitting behind it.

What's actually driving the gap

A handful of factors explain most of the spread:

1. Template versus custom. Applying your content to an existing, proven template takes a fraction of the hours a fully custom design does, because there's no original layout, brand system, or interaction design being built from scratch.
2. What's actually in scope. A cheap quote can exclude SEO-written content, hosting setup, analytics, and post-launch support, all of which you'll pay for separately once you realize they're missing. A higher quote usually has them folded in.
3. How much strategy happens before design. Some studios go straight from brief to Figma. Others start with real business analysis, competitor research, and a content plan before a single pixel is placed. That upfront thinking costs hours, and it's the difference between a site that looks fine and one built to convert.
4. Functionality. A basic brochure site and a site with e-commerce, booking systems, or custom integrations are not the same build. Anything syncing with a payment gateway or a booking calendar adds real development hours, not just design time.

How to read a quote properly

Before comparing prices, get each studio to answer the same four questions in writing: how many pages, template or custom, is SEO content included, and what happens after launch if something breaks. Two quotes that look ten thousand ringgit apart often turn out to be pricing genuinely different projects once you line the answers up side by side.
